Inclusion Criteria

The following general conditions must be met for this operation to be carried out:

  • Age:
    ≤ 75 years (in patients older than this, decisions are made on a case by case basis).
  • Blood screening:
    • Levels that indicate the clotting capability of the blood (INR value or Quick value, prothrombin time (PT), number of platelets (thrombocytes)) must be in the normal range.
    • There must be no indications of a chronic or acute inflammation or a tumor (e.g. leukemia).
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI):
    • It should be possible to carry out this examination without difficulty. Patients with significant movement disorders and/or claustrophobia may be examined under anesthesia. For patients with a cardiac pacemaker, the options will be discussed with the responsible cardiac specialist on site on a case-by-case basis.
    • The MRI images must not show any serious signs of deterioration of brain tissue (atrophy).
